Grand Teton National Park Foundation has not only completed, but exceeded, its $14 million Inspiring Journeys fundraising campaign to renew Grand Teton National Park’s most iconic destination in honor of the National Park Service centennial.

A new volunteer program to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the String Lake area has proven successful for Grand Teton National Park, and additional volunteers are wanted. The volunteers promote the “Bear Aware” campaign reminding visitors about the responsibilities related to recreating in bear country, as well as help with the increased issues related to the popularity of the area.

While smoky conditions and firefighting activity in Grand Teton National Park on Tuesday kept the south entrance road into Yellowstone National Park closed, a wall of fire was moving towards the West Entrance Road inside Yellowstone.

The slide projector whirred on the table next to my desk as Mrs. Sampson, our fourth-grade teacher, worked the balky advancement mechanism. She had purchased the Kodachromes in strips from a gift shop during her summer vacation, and the images on the screen transfixed me: vertical cliffs of white granite, waterfalls misting in midair, pine trees rising from a grassy riverbank.
