A variety of wastes, some hazardous to humans, have been discovered by environmental sampling at the Caneel Bay Resort in Virgin Islands National Park, according to a draft report on the work.

Nearly eight acres on the grounds of the Caneel Bay Resort in Virgin Islands National Park are being tested for environmental contaminants, a process that could determine the battered resort's fate.

Though Interior Department officials say they have reached an understanding with the operator of the Caneel Bay Resort at Virgin Islands National Park to finally determine the extent of environmental contamination at the resort, the department and the operator so far have failed to respond in detail to a notice of intent that they will be sued over the matter.
