This past summer National Geographic Traveler cobbled together a story that rated 55 national parks in Canada and the U.S. Of the 55, three in Colorado failed to muster a passing grade from the magazine's analysts, who looked at the environment, the crowds, the biology and the sustainable tourism of the parks.
So what's ailing Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison national parks? Jody Berger at the Rocky Mountain News tries to answer that question in a long story that appeared on October first. In the story, Berger points to problems with gateway towns, crowding inside the parks, and ecological problems.
