Railroad Wants More Time To Study Glacier Bombing Decision

Published Date

December 26, 2006

Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad officials have asked Glacier officials for more time to study their preference that the railroad not bomb southern parts of the park in the name of avalanche control.
In announcing an extension, until January 29th, to the comment period on that decision, Glacier officials did not specify why the railroad wanted more time to review the decision. And this being the day after Christmas, efforts to reach the park for an explanation have not yet been successful.
But you have to wonder why, two months after the park announced its intention, the railroad still needs more time to review it.
