Alaska Park Visits Up Thanks to Cruises

Count the national parks in Alaska as one group among the 390 units nationwide that enjoyed an increase in visitation last year.
According to a story in the Anchorage Daily News, 2006 visitation was up 5 percent, to 2.47 million.
Most of the increased visitation in Alaska was driven by cruise-ship traffic to three Southeastern parks -- Glacier Bay National Park, Sitka National Historical Park and Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, officials said.
