The Buck Shank Fire, which started Sunday in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is now up to 250 acres. The fire currently is within an area bordered by Abrams Creek, Buck Shank Branch, and Oak Flats Branch. The fourth line of containment is the Cooper Road Trail.
Twenty park firefighters currently are battling the fire, and another 20 firefighters are expected in this evening from Arkansas.
While all roads in the park are open and no structures are threatened, the Little Bottoms Trail is closed, as is the Hatcher Mountain Trail. The Cooper Road Trail is closed from its junction with the Cane Creek Trail to the Little Bottoms Trail, and the Abrams Fall Trail is closed from below the falls to the Little Bottoms Trail.
