If you like to leave the pavement for the sand dunes at Cape Cod National Seashore, mark April 10 on your calendar. That's when the seashore will begin selling this year's off-road-vehicle permits.
And when the permits go on sale at 8 a.m. that day, the pricing will be held at the same level as the past two years. Seashore Superintendent George E. Price, Jr., says the season-long ORV permit will go for $150.00; the seasonal, self-contained vehicle (SCV) permit will run $225.00; the 7-day ORV permit will cost $50.00, and; the 7-day SCV permit just $75.00.
Permit sales will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., seven days a week, from April 10 through November 15, 2009. The seashore's ORV corridor opens April 15, 2009.
The 7-Day ORV and 7-Day SCV permits may be purchased through the Advanced Sales System or in person. Advanced Sales forms for the 7-Day ORV and SCV weekly permits will begin to be processed in March. Check out the seashore's website for additional details on how to pick up a permit, safety equipment, tire requirements, and for driving instructions, including a notice on when sections of the ORV corridor could be restricted due to piping plover activity.
As in previous years, seasonal ORV permits may be purchased in person at the Oversand Station at Race Point, Provincetown. No seasonal ORV permits may be purchased through the Advanced Sales System.
