Traveler Housekeeping: Don't Forget To Check in On Our Favorite Links

While the lion's share of parks-related content shows up right here on the Traveler's home page, there's more behind the scenes.

For instance, recent additions to our Favorite Links include Historic Hotels & Lodges, a site that gives a photo-supported rundown of many national park lodges, places like the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite, Zion Lodge in Zion National Park, and even the Oregon Caves Chateau in Oregon Caves National Monument.

Another recent addition is My Handicap Parking, a blog of park essays written by Preston Filbert, who is grappling with polio. While the disease might at times limit how far he can go into a park, it hasn't hindered his writing style and insights to the parks, which I'm sure you'll enjoy. I think I might have convinced him to write one or two for the Traveler.

Another site that long has been in our Favorites list, the Smoky Mountain Hiking Blog, is likely the only resource you'll need for hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Back in February the site was recognized by American Trails for having the best hiking information not just on the Smokies, but on federal lands. I'm hoping to convince Jeff to let us borrow some of his favorite Smokies hikes.

Yet another recent addition is the Glacier National Park Travel Guide. The site's webmeister, Perry, is just 23, but he's already spent a couple summers working in the park. He has lots of information to share on the park -- hiking trails, wildlife, wildflowers, lodging -- and he's already promised to write a hiking post or two for the Traveler.

That is just a sampling of the great sites you'll find in our Favorites section. Another area not to be missed is our Fireside Reads corner. On these pages you'll find all our book reviews, dating back to the Traveler's beginning in August '05.
