Authorities at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah continued to search Monday evening for a missing boater after an accident on Lake Powell late last Saturday. Two members of group were rescued that afternoon and the bodies of three others have now been recovered.
Three retired couples from Arizona and Florida rented a 20-foot boat on Saturday, and a search was begun when they were reported overdue later that day. A ranger soon found and rescued two people—Jim and Heather Brady of St. Pete Beach, Florida—on the shore near Padre Butte. According to a park spokesman,
The Bradys reported that their boat sank after taking on water during a wind storm. They were treated for hypothermia. An intensive search by boat and air was begun for the other four members of the group. The bodies of two of them – Katherine Prescott of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Mary Anne Taranto of Prescott Valley, Arizona –were found later in the weekend.
According to AP news reports, the body of Terry Taranto of Prescott Valley, Arizona, was found Monday morning. As of Monday evening, the search was still underway for the last member of the group, Robert Prescott of St. Petersburg, Florida.
The search is being conducted with the assistance of Utah State Parks and the Kane County and San Juan County sheriff’s departments. Water in the area is reported to be up to 500 feet deep.
