The National Parks Traveler has been recognized by a leading kids advocacy web site for its content.

"We believe the National Parks Traveler brings people to the great outdoors and the best of what America has to offer, with down-to-earth commentary and an entertaining approach," said Maria Tuchinsky of Kid Friendly Cities.

Kid Friendly Cities, a not-for-profit in existence since 2001, offers important statistical information regarding some of the United States' most popular cities. Its web site hosts many different fun vacation destinations, day trips and kids activities. There also are whole sections dedicated strictly to fun ideas for kids activities. And there are sections dedicated to helping you find the best place for you to raise your family.

The Traveler, which will be listed on Kid Friendly Cities' resource pages, is the first blog to be honored by the organization.

"This is a wonderful honor," said Kurt Repanshek, the Traveler's founder and editor. "Attracting youth to the national parks through content that's both informative and entertaining, as well as educational, is a key part of our mission. To be recognized by Kid Friendly Cities shows we're moving in the right direction with our efforts."

National Parks Traveler was launched four years ago this month. The site is not affiliated with the National Park Service. The Traveler's mission is clear: National Parks Traveler works to educate the general public about the National Park System, increase awareness and understanding of issues affecting the national parks and the National Park Service, and build a stronger advocacy for protection and sound stewardship of the parks.

Congrats. Never heard of them, but i'm not their target audience obviously. Anyway, I hope this wonderful space for discussions will not become more shallow now in order to be "kid friendly". It should always be possible to call stupidity and idiocy in uncertain terms, while maintain civility towards everyone involved in discussions.

"More shallow"? Are you implying.....;-)

Thanks for the note. If anything, this will force us to ratchet up our standards and strive for more thorough coverage and thoughtful, as well as thought-provoking, content.

This recognition is indeed an honor for National Parks Traveler. It is also an indication that this informative site is attracting a very wide and diverse readership.

Thank you Kurt for a job very well done. Thank you too for your continued commitment to strive for the highest standards of coverage and reporting.

Congrats, Kurt -- well-deserved . . .

Great news! I know as a writer or blogger you often wonder if you're putting all this work into it and it's just drifting off into space unappreciated. Here's one more confirmation that NPT is worth the effort!
