Badger Pass Ski Area At Yosemite National Park Set to Open December 18

Badger Pass is set to launch its 75th winter season on Dec. 18. Delaware North Companies Parks and Resorts photo.

Badger Pass, an alpine ski area within Yosemite National Park, is set to open its 75th season on December 18.

The downhill area, a fond memory of many Californians who learned to ski and snowboard there, will open for the season with some upgrades.

"The popular Badger Lift at the resort has been completely replaced," said Colin Baldock, area manager at Badger Pass, which is operated by the Delaware North Companies Parks and Resorts. "The new lift construction that was completed this summer includes all new towers, drive terminal, return terminal machine house, operator house and chairs."

Arriving at Badger Pass is now easier and safer, thanks to a paving project also completed this year. The Glacier Point Road has been completely repaved up to the Badger Pass entrance and throughout the ski area's parking lots. And from the intersection of Wawona Road at Chinquapin up to Badger Pass, all of the turnouts have also been paved with curbs added.

Additional projects improving the ski area include the repainting of the Eagle Lift, which was rebuilt last year, and the replacement of its top operator house.

Badger Pass has been a family favorite since opening in 1935 with downhill runs catering to beginner and intermediate skiers of all ages. And its internationally famous Yosemite Ski School includes a Badger Pups program for toddlers who want to learn the winter sport.
