Nevada Barr at a book signing.

Best selling author Nevada Barr will present an evening program at the Wahweap Campground Amphitheater in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 11. Originally scheduled for July 8, this Glen Canyon Lecture series presentation had to be postponed until the 11th due to a flight delay caused by bad weather.

The Wahweap Campground is located near the Carl Hayden Visitor Center a few miles northwest of Page, Arizona.

Ms. Barr will speak briefly, host a question & answer session, and be available for book signings after the program. Admission is free.

Nevada Barr is best known for her Anna Pigeon murder mystery novels set in National Park System units. A former park ranger, Ms. Barr began writing novels with national park venues while working as a seasonal ranger at Guadalupe Mountains National Park in west Texas. Her first book, Track of the Cat, which was published in 1993, won an Agatha Award and an Anthony Award for best first novel. Since then she has produced more than a dozen other national park mystery novels, including A Superior Death and Winter Study (both based in Michigan's Isle Royale National Park), Ill Wind (Mesa Verde National Park), Firestorm (Lassen Volcanic National Park), Endangered Species (Cumberland Island National Seashore), Blind Descent (Carlsbad Caverns National Park), Liberty Falling (Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island National Monuments), Deep South and Hunting Season (both set in Natchez Trace Parkway), Blood Lure (Glacier National Park), Flashback (Dry Tortugas National Park), High Country (Yosemite National Park), Hard Truth (Rocky Mountain National Park), and Borderline (Big Bend National Park).

Anna Pigeon murder mystery #16, Burn, which features New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and post-Katrina New Orleans, will be released in August. Ms. Barr's Glen Canyon National Recreation Area visit will give her the opportunity to do some research for a future book to be centered on the park.

The Glen Canyon Lecture Series is sponsored by the National Park Service at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in partnership with the Glen Canyon Lecture Series (Glen Canyon Natural History Association, Powell Museum, and Page Public Library) and is provided as a service to the community and the visitors to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and Glen Canyon Dam/Lake Powell.

Support National Parks Traveler

Your support for the National Parks Traveler comes at a time when news organizations are finding it hard, if not impossible, to stay in business. Traveler's work is vital. For nearly two decades we've provided essential coverage of national parks and protected areas. With the Trump administration’s determination to downsize the federal government, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s approach to public lands focused on energy exploration, it’s clear the Traveler will have much to cover in the months and years ahead. We know of no other news organization that provides such broad coverage of national parks and protected areas on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated.
