An old-time mountain Holiday Homecoming will be held December 18 at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center and the Mountain Farm Museum in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, complete with hot cider and cornshuck dolls.
The celebration will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The visitor center, adorned in the spirit of the season with holiday decorations, will set the atmosphere of tradition with an exhibit that shows how Christmas was celebrated in the mountains in past decades, according to park officials.
As part of the festivities, visitors can participate in making beeswax candles and cornshuck dolls and local musicians will perform traditional holiday melodies and old-time favorites for guests to tune in.
The Davis/Queen farmhouse at the Mountain Farm Museum will also be open for visitors to walk through and see the rooms which are usually closed to the public.
