The deadline in Traveler's national parks essay contest is March 1. Have your children entered? Winners get free lodging in a national park and great gear!
The contest, along with testing kids' composition skills, is intended to connect them with national parks. After all, today's younger generations will become tomorrow's park stewards. We want to hear from youngsters in elementary, middle, and high school on how they view the national parks.
Three grand-prize winners of the Traveler's first Take Your Family to the National Parks essay contest will win lodging for four members of their family in one of the country's national parks, and some gear to help to help them enjoy the trip.
Entries are being accepted from students in three age brackets: 8-11, 12-15, and 16-18.
Essays should be emailed between 12:01 a.m. MDT on February 1, 2011, and 11:59 p.m. MDT on March 1, 2011, to the Traveler at [email protected] . The age bracket in which the essay is being submitted must be noted in the subject line of the emails. So, your subject line should read something like "Parks Essay Contest-8-11," or "Parks Essay Contest-12-15," or "Parks Essay Contest-16-18." Entries that fail to contain this information will be discarded. Written submissions will not be accepted.
To resolve any ties that arise from grand-prize winners wishing to visit the same park, at the bottom of your essay list your top three choices of destination. A blind drawing will then determine the winners' choice of destinations.
