Chimani's Library Of National Park Apps Continues To Grow

With the recent addition of an app for Yellowstone National Park, Chimani now offers apps on eight units of the National Park System, and three more are scheduled to be released in the coming weeks.

Kerry Gallivan just keeps kicking 'em out. National park apps, that is.

Just last week Mr. Gallivan, the founder and president of Chimani, added an app for Yellowstone National Park to go along with previous releases on Yosemite National Park, Zion National Park, Acadia National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Cape Cod National Seashore.

Expected to arrive later this month are apps for Rocky Mountain and Olympic national parks, and early in August one for Grand Teton National Park is scheduled for release.

These multi-media apps are great if you left your guidebook at home. For instance, the Yellowstone app provides "sunset and sunrise times for the most memorable scenic overlooks, including Artist’s Point and Lamar Valley," and as with the other park apps helps you plan hikes, review safety information, and proviedes information on hundreds of points of interest.

The apps also provide a complete  list of facilities, "including locations of all the restrooms and picnic areas in the park."

These apps also include robust map interfaces that are custom-made, GPS-enabled, and include every hiking trail in the parks. Unlike many other apps for Yellowstone, the map "works without the need for a cell phone or data connection and is specifically designed for the mobile app platform."

Regarding the Yellowstone app, Mr. Gallivan says that, "Like all the features of this app, you don't need cell access to unleash its full capabilities. Whether you are simply trying to find the closest restroom, reading more about Puff ’n Stuff geyser, or taking the audio tour of The Grand Loop Road (with over 60 minutes of professionally narrated material), you'll always be able to enjoy the full experience of the app."

Chiman's park apps can be downloaded from Apple's iTunes App Store for the iPhone version while the Android version can be obtained from the Android Marketplace (keyword: "chimani"). Both versions sell for the regular price of $9.99.

Support National Parks Traveler

Your support for the National Parks Traveler comes at a time when news organizations are finding it hard, if not impossible, to stay in business. Traveler's work is vital. For nearly two decades we've provided essential coverage of national parks and protected areas. With the Trump administration’s determination to downsize the federal government, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s approach to public lands focused on energy exploration, it’s clear the Traveler will have much to cover in the months and years ahead. We know of no other news organization that provides such broad coverage of national parks and protected areas on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated.
