Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to keep Cumberland Island National Seashore closed to the public through Wednesday.
The seashore closed Sunday evening in advance of the storm. This morning officials said the closure would remain in effect through mid-week.
Further closures will be determined daily based on the severity of the storm, its aftermath, and conditions on Cumberland Island and surrounding waters, seashore officials said.
“The national seashore staff is making assessments of storm damage and are beginning the clean up process,” said Superintendent Fred Boyles. “We believe at this point that the park facilities have sustained no serious damage, although a full assessment is being made.”
Visitors with ferry and camping reservations for May 28th and 29th and for future dates should monitor the situation for information about reopening by calling the park at 912/882-4336 ext 254.
