Search At Glacier National Park For Missing Day Hiker

A search was under way Monday in Glacier National Park for a day hiker who failed to return from a hike on Saturday.

Park officials say their dispatch office received a call Saturday night that Jakson Kreiser, a seasonal employee with Glacier Park, Inc., at Lake McDonald Lodge, was overdue from a day hike in the park.

Park rangers investigated the situation and found Mr. Kreiser’s vehicle at the Logan Pass Visitor Center parking lot. It is believed that the young man was planning a day hike from Logan Pass to the Avalanche Lake area. Ground and aerial search efforts were conducted Sunday and continue Monday morning. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Department Mountain Rescue Team and the U.S. Border Patrol also were assisting in the effort.

A park incident management team was organized to manage the incident. Approximately 50 people were dedicated to the search.

Mr. Kreiser is from Michigan. This was his first year working in the area. He is 6-foot-2 inches tall with black, short and curly hair, and a black beard. It is believed he was wearing a yellow sweatshirt and khaki pants, and carrying a grey and yellow backpack.

Anyone who may have been in the Logan Pass, Hidden Lake, Floral Park or Avalanche Lake areas over the weekend and may have seen Mr. Kreiser is encouraged to contact park dispatch at 406-888-7800.

Lets hope this is just another case of a stupid hiker who strayed "off trail" and is lost. Unfortunately in GNP, the possibility exists that he was consumed by a hungry bear. I hope he is found (alive).
