Low Water Levels Affecting Boating Opportunities At Grand Teton National Park

Early spring runoff, and low precipitation this summer, has Grand Teton National Park officials planning to halt commercial boating operations on Jenny Lake on Tuesday.

Park officials say the decision was made to prevent boat motors and trailers from being damaged by the lake's low level.

Jenny Lake Boating is an authorized concession of Grand Teton National Park that provides boat shuttles, kayak rentals and scenic cruises on Jenny Lake.

Park naturalists will also discontinue their daily Inspiration Point hike on September 4. The popular hike will be replaced with a program called “Explore Grand Teton National Park.”

Visitors may join a ranger on a hike around the south side of Jenny Lake to reach a location where the Teton Fault scarp and the area’s tectonic geology become obvious. To join this 2.5-hour excursion, meet a ranger at the flagpole in front of the Jenny Lake Visitor Center at 9:30 a.m. for the 3-mile hike.

The Jenny Lake Ranger Station is open daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 9, and the Jenny Lake Visitor Center and Store will remain open through September 23 from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. daily.
