You once again can hike to Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park thanks to the minimal activity of the "Avalanche Wildland Fire."
Park officials said Friday the firefighting efforts and cooler, wetter weather has tamped down the fire that has been burning on Mount Brown near the lake.
The fire area will continue to be monitored and additional suppression activities will be implemented as appropriate. Some smoke may be visible from locations within the park. The fire area itself is closed to the public, but the Avalanche Trail has reopened.
