Work to replace an underground cable that provides electricity to Phantom Ranch will close parts of the Bright Angel Campground at Grand Canyon National Park for about two months, according to park officials.
Work on replacing and relocating the electric cable is expected to begin January 7 and should be done by March, they said.
Visitors to the Phantom Ranch area should be aware that work may take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. any day of the week. Moderate daytime noise impacts are expected due to the construction activities and associated equipment use.
To assure visitor and worker safety, portions of the Bright Angel Campground will be closed throughout the project and trails in the area will be detoured around the construction. Hikers should watch for and obey signs and should be aware that delays are possible.
Every effort is being made to minimize impacts to park visitors and residents during this important infrastructure improvement, the officials said.
