At Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado the Big Meadows Fire is 95 percent contained, according to park officials.

Fire managers on Wednesday were working on transitioning management of the 604-acre fire back to the Type III interagency team. Though fire crews have built secure fire lines, interior burning within the Big Meadows Fire may still occasionally be seen throughout the summer, until a significant weather event puts the fire out, a park release added. Fire managers will continue to monitor the fire until they are confident it is completely out.

The park's forecast over the next two days called for winds of 20 to 30 mph out of the southwest with gusts reaching as high as 40 mph. Temperatures will be slightly higher, accompanied by lower relative humidity, the park release said, adding that it is possible that pockets of heat in the fire interior may produce visible smokes.

Trail closures were to continue in effect for the Onahu Trail, the Green Mountain Trail, and the lower Tonahutu Trail. Trail closures do affect a section of the Continental Divide Trail that passes through the park. Visitors to the park should check the Rocky Mountain National Park website for the latest information regarding trail closures and alerts.

All major roads and facilities in Rocky Mountain National Park are open, as are the gateway communities of Grand Lake and Estes Park. Visitors are strongly cautioned to be aware of increased traffic and aircraft associated with the fire.
