Piping Plover Chicks Lead To ORV Closure To Part Of Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Discovery of piping plover chicks has led to temporary closure of off-road vehicle access to part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore on the Outer Banks of North Carolina as required under the seashore's off-road management plan.

Outer Banks Group Superintendent Barclay Trimble said Ramp 43 was closed to ORVs on Thursday due to the hatching of a nearby piping plover nest. The nest, located between Ramp 43 and Ramp 44, hatched early that morning.

While the two ramps were closed to ORVs, there currently is pedestrian access north of Ramp 43 and south of Ramp 44.
