Trail Magic Will Be Flowing Friday In Honor Of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, A.T.

A little Trail Magic will be flowing, quite literally, Friday as the Nantahala Brewing Co. celebrates the season, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

The brew, a 10.2 percent alcohol rye wine, is the latest in a series of brews that go to support the Appalachian Trail Ridgerunner program in the park. Recently, Nantahala Brewing donated $1,000 to Friends of the Smokies to support the Ridgerunner program and its work to preserve and improve the hiking experience along the Appalachian Trail in the national park.

For more than 15 years, the Ridgerunner program has recruited individuals to work along the A.T. to provide visitor information, perform trail maintenance, advise hikers on trail conditions and provide vital real-time information for emergencies and possible problem bears.

The Trail Magic will be flowing in Bryson City, NC, this weekend.

Through support from Friends of the Smokies, the Ridgerunners’ presence on the trail has made a significant impact on the park’s ability to manage and protect the more than 71 miles of A.T. within the park.

Since early 2012, Nantahala Brewing has helped support the Ridgerunner program by donating a portion of the sales of their limited release Trail Magic Ales. Named for the random acts of kindness -- "trail magic" -- hikers may encounter along the length of the A.T., Nantahala Brewing’s award-winning Trail Magic Ales have provided important support for this special program in America’s most visited national park.

On Friday, Nantahala Brewing will release the sixth installment of its Trail Magic Ale series. Tapping the newest brew will start at 6 p.m. in their Tap Room in Bryson City, North Carolina.

Also on Friday, beginning at 8 p.m., participants are encourage to bring homebrews or rare and unique beers for a bottle swap party.

The following day, October 19th, previously released editions of Trail Magic Ale No. 4 and No. 5 will be offered at a discount in an event beginning at noon.

The highly successful Ridgerunner program will continue to preserve the Appalachian Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and safeguard its many hikers with generous funding support from individuals and local businesses like Nantahala Brewing Company.
