Quarter Commemorating Shenandoah National Park Arrives Friday

Come Friday, you'll be able to carry Shenandoah National Park around in your pocket. Well, at least a 25-cent piece celebrating the national park.

Officials from the United States Mint and the National Park Service will hold a ceremony Friday for the official launch of the Shenandoah National Park quarter. The ceremony will take place at the Skyline High School in Front Royal, Virgina, at 10 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Scheduled guests include U.S. Senator Tim Kaine and Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources Molly Ward. A notable event highlight includes a coin exchange where the public is invited to trade their cash for $10 rolls of the new quarter.

The Shenandoah National Park quarter is the 22nd coin the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites authorized by Public Law 110-456.

Each year, the public will see five national sites depicted on the reverse (tails side) of the America the Beautiful Quarters. The United States Mint is issuing these quarters in the order in which the honored site was first established as a national site.
