Search Ongoing For Missing Tuber In Yellowstone River

Three concession workers in Yellowstone National Park decided to float down the Lamar River the other day in tubes, but only two made it to shore. The third was swept down the Yellowstone River and hasn't been found.

The employees headed out Monday evening to float the Lamar near Tower Junction, a practice that is banned in the park. When the three reached the confluence of the Lamar and Yellowstone rivers, two of the three got out of the water, but Darien Latty, 22, of Georgia, was swept down the more powerful Yellowstone River, according to park officials.

Initial search efforts Monday evening failed to turn up any sign of the young man, who is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Search efforts were increased Tuesday, with a helicopter, three dog teams, and several small groups of people searching the Yellowstone River corridor from Tower Junction downstream to Gardiner, Montana. 

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Darien Latty is asked to call Yellowstone National Park at 307-344-2642.
