A snowplow driver's view of Trail Ridge Road on Wednesday/NPS

Fall is little more than a week old, yet winter has made an impressive appearance in Rocky Mountain National Park, where snowplows were busy Wednesday trying to keep Trail Ridge Road open for at least one more weekend.

A storm dumped enough snow Tuesday evening that winds were able to build drifts 2-3 feet high in places on Trail Ridge Road. The plows were busy and making good progress Wednesday.

Park officials are optimistic that "(T)his storm does not appear to be the season-ender...We are hopeful that Trail Ridge Road will reopen by this weekend."You can check on the road's status by calling (970) 586-1222.
