The viewing area at Thunder Hole is going to be closed for two months/Michael Rickard
It's one of the main attractions at Acadia National Park, and perhaps that's why crews need to make repairs to the viewing area at Thunder Hole.
Work began last week and is expected to continue for two months. The goal is to reopen the viewing area on May 22, the Friday before Memorial Day.
Last week construction crews began mobilizing equipment into the left lane of Park Loop Road, resulting in the closure of that lane to snowmobile traffic. The right-hand lane of Park Loop Road will remain open to motor vehicle traffic. The entire viewing area at Thunder Hole will be closed during construction, park officials said.

If the Thunder Hole viewing area isn't open by the time you visit, there are plenty of other hikes in Acadia worth taking. The latest edition of our Best Easy Day Hikes, Acadia National Park, was just published today by FalconGuides. You can read about what's new in the 3rd edition here:
