The Colorado River flows the length of Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah, but the highlight seems to be Cataract Canyon if you listen to paddlers. While some outfitters negotiate a roughly 100-mile stretch of the Colorado River from near Moab to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in a day or two, and others in six days, the main attraction is Cataract Canyon with its bucking white water.
And for just cause, as in high water or low the stretch that holds Big Drop and Satan's Gut tests a guide's nerves and causes their passengers to pause.
This past September and into early October a group of park travelers spent six days exploring this watery part of Canyonlands. It was a stunning trip that ended with some looking ahead to a repeat trip in 2016. Spend a few minutes watching this video to see if the river starts to pull at you, too.
