Reader Participation Day: Which Presidential Nominee Would Be Better For The National Park System?

Share

Published Date

October 26, 2016

Thankfully, there are just two weeks left to go in the 2016 general election. Which begs the question: Which nominee would be better for the National Park System and National Park Service?

While Democrat Hillary Clinton did put forth a statement outlining her intention to create a trust fund for the parks, not much has been heard from Republican Donald Trump on the parks specifically.

There have been reports that Mr. Trump would support the transfer of some federal lands in the West to states, a position the Republican Party adopted at its convention this past summer. And how would his proposal to build a wall along the U.S. - Mexico border impact border parks such as Big Bend National Park, Chamizal National Memorial, Coronado National Memorial, and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument?

Which candidate do you think would be best for the park system and Park Service?

Support National Parks Traveler

Your support for the National Parks Traveler comes at a time when news organizations are finding it hard, if not impossible, to stay in business. Traveler's work is vital. For nearly two decades we've provided essential coverage of national parks and protected areas. With the Trump administration’s determination to downsize the federal government, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s approach to public lands focused on energy exploration, it’s clear the Traveler will have much to cover in the months and years ahead. We know of no other news organization that provides such broad coverage of national parks and protected areas on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated.

That was well said Trail.  Unfortunately, I don't think this election will bring anything enlightening to the table.  At this point, I only can hope for a sane and thoughtful cabinet that works for more than just the extreme fringes of the global corporate elite.

While Congressman Grijalva would be a great choice, I believe it's far more important to keep him in Congress in his important committee position.  We need every Democrat we can get for the next session.  Meanwhile, Mark Udall would be an excellent choice.  Great political AND environmental pedigree.

While we hear of morale issues and some if not many in senior positions in NPS acting in less than honorable ways shouldn't there be an interest in putting someone at the top that doesn't have five seperate FBI investigations going on that most assuredly follow that individual and their network into the White House.  Serious stuff going on and to be a one issue voter with that issue somewhere down the list of National Priorities (It's big but there are much bigger) seems to me to be a disservice to the country.  Just my thoughts.  The only one that I can think of that I support 110% is Trey Gowdy at Justice.  Certainly would send a message to everyone but he would only be considered if one of the two candidates were elected.  Serious stuff...

Of course you do - Gowdy, who has forged documents to try to frame Secretary Clinton has wasted millions of dollars in a total fruitless search. He is such a partisan whore.

I think he'd treat Hillary and yourself with the same defference.   Better be careful.  There might be a 6th FBI investigation (not Gowdy).  The dam is broken, Rick.  Better check your tea leaves.  Not a better advocate for impartial law and order and the Constitution than Mr. Gowdy whoever is involved.  Not his fault he's presented with so much Cliinton/Obama amunition.  Bring it on, sir.

That's comforting, other than the alarming fact that you almost msde sense.

Get back to me in a week. I'd put more money on the sexual predator cheeto doing time for treason with Russia than Hillary for someone else's emails.

Treason with Russia?  You've been listening to Carville.  Always the Russians, lol!  You should check out Carvile unleashed.  Always entertaining but I prefer his wife for the serious stuff:).

Have a good evening, Rick.
