Zion National Park Plein Air Invitational Coming In November

Zion National Park Foundation is hosting 24 artists for a week of creativity and inspiration, November 7-13, as part of the eighth annual Zion National Park Plein Air Art Invitational. It is being billed as the "Centennial Edition," celebrating the influence of original art in the founding of the National Park Service one hundred years ago.

The artists will be painting at several locations throughout the park as well as holding demonstrations on the patio of the Zion Human History Museum. There will also be several lectures and chances for visitors to purchase the artists' original works. Proceeds will support Zion National Park's Youth Education Initiative and Arts Programs.

Invited artists can be seen painting along Zion National Park's trails and roadsides Monday through Friday. On Saturday, November 12, visitors can watch the artists on the Zion Lodge Lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.On Sunday, all the artists will also be painting around the Zion Human History Museum from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Artists will be leading demonstrations Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m.11 a.m.12 p.m.1 p.m.2 p.m., and 3 p.m.at the Zion Human History Museum. In addition, there will be four lectures. The Tuesday and Wednesday lectures will be held at 7 p.m. in the Zion Lodge Auditorium. The Thursday lecture will take place at 7 p.m.at the Canyon Community Center in Springdale. The lecture series will culminate on the morning of November 11 at 11 a.m. on the Zion Human History Museum Patio with a lecture titled The Role of Art in Our National Parks presented by Michael Plyler.

Art from the 24 artists will be on display and available for purchase all week at the Zion Human History Museum. A "Wet Paint" exhibit and sale will also occur at the Zion Human History Museum, Saturday November 12 through Sunday, November 13. A silent auction will take place at the Zion Lodge Auditorium on Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the event support Zion National Park's art and educational programming. The Zion National Park Foundation is the park's official fundraising partner. Zion National Park Foundation helps support Zion's junior ranger program, other youth outreach projects, and the park's Artist-in-Residence Program.
