A wide array of family activities is coming to Lowell National Historical Park on Saturdays/NPS

A popular series of family programs, Your City Saturday, returns to Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts on Saturday, November 19th, and will continue on the third Saturday of every month for the rest of the school year.

New this year: the national park will partner with other organizations in and around the city to create opportunities for hands-on, mind-on learning and fun.

The first session of the season will be on November 19, starting at 1 p.m., at Pollard Memorial Library Meeting Room in Lowell. The event will celebrate National Literacy Month and tell Lowell’s stories through hands-on activities, a pop-up museum, and readings from Mister Magnificent’s Magical Merrimack Adventure. Activities will continue until 4 p.m., so feel free to drop by any time.

All families who attend will receive a free copy of the book, Mister Magnificent’s Magical Merrimack Adventure

Your City Saturday activities aim to inspire creativity in the next generation of National Park and community stewards, offer the opportunity for families to learn about different organizations in Lowell, and engage families in hands-on investigations of Lowell’s unique stories, past, present, and future. Lowell played an important role as the country’s first major planned industrial center in the 1820s, and continues to reflect cycles of creativity, industry, immigration, and innovative urban planning. You're invited to return every month to try new things, create memories, and become urban explorers.

While you’re downtown, make a day of it. Family-friendly activities at Lowell National Historical Park include museum demonstrations, canal trails and walkways, and the park's Junior Ranger program. Start your visit at the Visitor Center at 246 Market Street, open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free parking is available at the Lowell National Historical Park parking lot at 304 Dutton Street.

Your City Saturday is part of Lowell National Historical Park’s family programming planned for 2016-2017.
