In less than a week a wildfire burning in Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida has ballooned to more than 24,300 acres, though park staff say it's roughly a third contained.
The fire, nicknamed Parliament, was spotted last Saturday north of the Burns Lake Campground. On Thursday firefighters were both battling the flames directly and burning areas to reduce fuels and slow the spread of fire and threat to U.S. 41.
The fire did not result from planned prescribed fire activities, and how it started remains under investigation.
