Just ahead of what surely will be a busy summer in Canada’s national parks, a new official mobile app released by Parks Canada provides information about its natural and cultural sites, with planning information and tips, and digital stickers and frames for sharing photos on social media.
In honor of the country’s 150th anniversary in 2017, entrance to the more than 200 Parks Canada sites is free all year.
“National parks, historic sites and marine conservation areas represent the very best that Canada has to offer. As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of confederation, Parks Canada is launching new and innovative programs and services to enable Canadians, including youth and newcomers, to experience the outdoors and learn more about our heritage,” said Catherine McKenna, Canada’s minister of Environment and Climate Change. “The new Parks Canada app provides visitors with fun, new ways to connect with Canada’s treasured places, plan their trips to Parks Canada destinations, and share their experiences on social media. Parks Canada looks forward to welcoming Canadians and visitors from around the world to celebrate Canada 150.”
The app includes interactive parks-themed photo filters activated by their smartphone GPS when they arrive at a Parks Canada destination. There is also detailed information on Parks Canada locations, tips on how to prepare for a visit, interactive maps, and details about hundreds of events planned for 2017 across the country.
The app can be downloaded for free in the App Store (iOS 9.0 and up) and Google Play Store (Android 4.4 and up) by searching for “Parks Canada – National App.”
