Road work will require that the Akamina Parkway in Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada be closed to all public access from June 14 to June 16 to complete paving work at the Cameron Lake Day Use Area.

The Akamina Parkway will reopen to public traffic up to the Little Prairie Day Use Area on June 17. Public access along the remainder of the parkway to Cameron Lake is planned for June 23, weather depending. Upgrades to the Day Use Area will be substantially complete by this point, with contractors completing finishing touches.

During this brief closure, the Red Rock Parkway and Chief Mountain Highway remain open and are great alternative scenic drives in Waterton Lakes National Park.

Cameron Lake is the trailhead for the most scenic hike I have ever taken. Better than Half Dome in my opinion. Incredible views of Glacier NP to the south with 3 cirques with turquoise water. All the climing is in the morning and it is only down hill back to Waterton Village. On your way down, you pass along a chain of 3 lakes fed by a glacier and then you suddenly find yourself next to the top of a huge cirque and you then travel down next to the cirque to Alderson Lake below. Then you follow a stream and walk right into Waterton Village with a scenic cascade at the end. All and all about 13 miles one way.  650 meters of Elevation Gain & 1015 meters of Elevation Loss.
