
Live in or near central New Jersey and looking for something fun and interesting to do over the long Fourth of July break? Head over to Morristown National Historical Park to take part in Revolutionary Times, three days of patriotic July activities.
- 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Free admission to Morristown NHP's Washington's Headquarters.
- 1 and 2 p.m.: The Old Barracks Fife and Drum Corps will perform 45-minute sets on the lawn at Washington's Headquarters. Bring chairs or blankets. In case of rain, the concert will be held inside the Washington's Headquarters Museum auditorium.
- 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Free admission to Washington's Headquarters.
Tuesday, July 4
- 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Free admission to Washington's Headquarters.
- 10 a.m.: Take a guided tour of Morris County's oldest graveyard, the Whippany Burying Yard, and learn about the founding of Hanover, Morris County's oldest town. Meet at the J&R Cigar parking lot at 301 Route 10 East, Whippany. Presented by the Hanover Township Landmark Commission. Call 973-631-5151 to register.
- Noon: Annual reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Morristown Green. Costumed re-enactors. Audience participation. Musical sing-a-long with Gordon Thomas Ward. Musket salute. In the event of rain, the event will move indoors to the Presbyterian Church at 57 East Park Place.
- 1 p.m.: Following the reading, the Presbyterian Church of Morristown will provide guided tours of its sanctuary and Revolutionary-era graveyard, which is the burial place of over 140 Revolutionary War soldiers. The cemetery is located behind the church at 57 East Park Place. There is no fee for this tour.
