The 33rd Annual Badlands Star Party is coming to Theodore Roosevelt National Park this coming weekend/NPS, Jeff Zylland
Stargazing from Oxbow Overlook in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota will mark the 33rd Annual Badlands Star Party this coming weekend.
Telescopes will be set up Friday and Saturday on the overlook, which is located 14 miles from the entrance to the park's North Unit, on Friday and Saturday. Constellation tours will be offerd as soon as stars are avaialble, at approximately 11 p.m. CDT.
There also will be the option to view the sun through a solar telescope that will be set up at the North Unit Contact Station pullout from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. CDT on Saturday.
Park staff note that nights in the badlands can be cool and rain is alway a possibility, so pack a jacket, sweater, and maybe a rain jacket. Also, be careful driving in the park after dark, as bison and other wildlife might be on the road.
The star party is being presented by the Northern Sky Astronomical Society of Grand Forks, which is associated with the University of North Dakota.
