Visitors to Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas will soon have a new place to spend the night, as the National Park Service has signed a lease to have the historic Hale Bathhouse turned into a boutique hotel.
The lease with Zest Enterprise, LLC, was signed last week.
"We are thrilled that another one of these beautiful buildings will be reopening to serve visitors and offer a new experience in the park," said Hot Springs Superintendent Josie Fernandez.
Pat and Ellen McCabe also intend to open a restaurant and provide conference space in the converted bathhouse. The lease with the Park Service authorizes the couple to offer overnight lodging with access to the thermal waters for each of the nine rooms, two of which will be suites.
"This is a viable and appropriate new use of the building that is in keeping our historic preservation mandate and provide a positive economic impact to this community," the superintendent said.
- Since 2007 the Park Service has signed three long-term leases for bathhouses.
- Quapaw Baths and Spa offers spa services in the Quapaw Bathhouse.
- The Superior Bathhouse houses a brewpub.
- The Museum of Contemporary Art for a while held a lease in the Ozark Bathhouse, though currently the Park Service uses the building as a home for its Artist in Residence program and for wedding receptions and gatherings.
