The Bears Of Katmai National Park And Preserve

Bears of Katmai National Park and Preserve 2018/NPS

You may never get to Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska, but that doesn't mean you can't know the bears that wander around there. The park staff has made it easy for you to both know the bears and some of their habits.

For the sixth year running, and seventh overall, the Katmai staff has put together an eBook, Bears of Brooks River, A Guide To Their Identification, Lives, and Habits. Inside this 118-page book you'll find bear photos with their "names" (e.g., numbers, such as #402 and #480), learn some bear biology, discover some of the nuances of the Brooks Falls where the bears like to catch salmon, and learn what biologists are looking for when they observe the bruins. Plus, there are handy links to bearcams, including this one.

All in all, a great resource for wildlife followers and to perhaps convince your children that a career as a wildlife biologist would be pretty cool.
