Nine hikers were short-hauled out of Hidden Canyon at Zion National Park/NPS
A rockfall along the Hidden Canyon Trail in Zion National Park on Tuesday temporarily stranded nine hikers, who a bit later were hauled out of the canyon by helicopter.
No one was injured in the incident. Zion’s search and rescue team, along with the help of the Grand Canyon helicopter crew, short-hauled the nine visitors safely out of canyon. A short-haul operation involves placing an individual in a harness, attaching them to a rope hooked to the underbelly of a helicopter, and hauling them to safety. There often is a ranger attached to the individual, as well.
Hidden Canyon Trail will remain closed for at least a week while staff monitor the area for additional slides.
Weeping Rock, East Rim Trail, Observation Point Trail, Cable Mountain Trail and Deer Trap are still open.
