There really are no bad seasons in the National Park System, just seasons that might challenge you a bit more than others. With that understood, there likely are many pleased to learn that the Oregon Inlet Campground at Cape Hatteras National Seashore on the Outer Banks of North Carolina will remain open year-round.

The campground usually closes after Thanksgiving weekend, but this year it will stay open for the entire year as the seashore evaluates a new camping opportunity.

All 120 sites will be open for use. One restroom facility will remain open. Electricity and water connections are available at 47 camping sites, and site-specific reservations will be possible beginning December 2nd at www.recreation.gov.

"It's exciting to provide a new camping opportunity for seashore visitors," said Superintendent David Hallac. "We plan to try this for a season and consider it again during future years if the campground is used."

Support National Parks Traveler

Your support for the National Parks Traveler comes at a time when news organizations are finding it hard, if not impossible, to stay in business. Traveler's work is vital. For nearly two decades we've provided essential coverage of national parks and protected areas. With the Trump administration’s determination to downsize the federal government, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s approach to public lands focused on energy exploration, it’s clear the Traveler will have much to cover in the months and years ahead. We know of no other news organization that provides such broad coverage of national parks and protected areas on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated.

I think this is a terrific idea ! May take a while before folks know about it . I live in the northern OBX at Carova Beach and camp frequently along the coast in my Class B campervan . Oregon Inlet campground is one of my favorite .

Coming home for Christmas  from Florida , will plan on staying  at this campground  a couple days .

It would be super cool if this opening was more apparent when looking at Cape Hatteras reservations! Sorry if I completely missed a notice but I just stumbled on this article in a last ditch effort after checking other sites availability.
