What's the best way to remove a pile of waste roughly 12 feet thick spread across nearly two acres of land in the Yosemite Valley? That's the question Yosemite National Park staff hopes the public will provide some input on during a public meeting later this month.
Park staff is developing a remediation plan for the Curry Former Waste Disposal Site. The project aims to clean up 1.8 acres of land located east of Curry Village that long was used as a dump site. The site, however, was designated as a wilderness trailhead parking lot under the Merced Wild and Scenic River Final Comprehensive Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (Merced River Plan).
During a public meeting on November 20 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. staff will present four alternative actions being considered to clean up the former dump site. From 1 p.m.-1:30 p.m. staff will share information on this project. From 1:30 p.m.-2 p.m. members of the public will be encouraged to share their thoughts, concerns, and ask questions of experts familiar with the Curry Former Waste Disposal Site.
Yosemite National Park will also be opening a 30-day public comment period on this project, from November 20 to December 19.
