The five units of the National Park System in western Pennsylvania are taking to Facebook to bring you virtual tours/NPS

The National Park Service units of western Pennsylvania, which include Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic SiteFlight 93 National MemorialFort Necessity National BattlefieldFriendship Hill National Historic Site and Johnstown Flood National Memorial, are offering weekly Facebook Live videos featuring each park unit starting March 31.

“Even though the parks are completely closed, we want to provide an opportunity for the public to enjoy and learn about our national parks,” said Stephen M. Clark, superintendent for the five parks.

Kicking off the Facebook Live video series on Tuesday, March 31, Ranger Doug Bosley will share an overview of all five national park units in Western Pennsylvania. All videos will also be shared between the Facebook pages of all five parks and be available for watching after they are aired.

“Facebook Live will allow everyone a glimpse into the collections that you don’t normally have an opportunity to view,” said Brian Reedy, chief of interpretation at Fort Necessity National Battlefield and Friendship Hill National Historic Site. Each western Pennsylvania national park unit will feature a Facebook live video once a week at 1 p.m. Eastern:

“We want to help make the time at home social distancing a little better by bringing what makes our sites special, to you live on Facebook,” said Katherine Cordek, Flight 93 spokeswoman.
