Under a deal worked out with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area officials agreed to open the Wahweap Marina on Friday to select boaters.

While the NRA closed all boat ramps on April 6 in part due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ducey was able to convince Park Service staff to reopen the Wahweap Marina, which is set on the Utah-Arizona border.

"The park is supporting implementation of the Arizona Lake Powell Local Boater Program developed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department," a release from Glen Canyon on Friday said. "The program will provide limited day-use boat access to the lake beginning Friday, April 24, 2020. Access will be available for boats enrolled in the program at the Wahweap Public Boat Launch Ramp on Fridays, Saturdays. and Sundays from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

"Any boat stored within 20 miles of Page, Arizona is eligible for enrollment in the program. Details about the Arizona Lake Powell Local Boater Program and enrollment guidance can be found at https://www.azgfd.com/fishing/invasivespecies/ and https://www.nps.gov/glca/april-2020-wahweap-ramp-faq.htm."

According to the release, boats stored in slips or buoy fields throughout Glen Canyon National Recreation Area may also use Lake Powell.

In addition to the limited boat use, the NRA remains open with access to most of the 1.25 million acres within its borders.
