North Carolina highway crews were busy Wednesday morning clearing away sand deposited on Highway 12 through Cape Hatteras National Seashore by Atlantic Ocean overwash.

Highway department staff said the route was closed between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.

According to the National Weather Service, a low pressure system off the North Carolina coast brought minor coastal flooding to the Outer Banks overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
