Body At Colorado National Monument Believed To Be Missing Hiker

A body found Saturday in Colorado National Monument matched the description of Jim Fuchs, who went for a hike Monday and never returned/NPS HO

A body found Saturday at Colorado National Monument is believed to be that of a man who went for a hike Monday and never returned.

After the body was discovered the search for Jim Fuchs, 66, of Grand Junction, Colorado, was suspended, a park release said.

The identification of the victim and cause of death will be established by Mesa County coroner. However, the park release said the body matched Fuchs' description. It was spotted early Saturday in rough terrain beyond the Devil’s Kitchen rock formation in the monument.

Monument staff initiated search efforts for Fuchs on Thursday in response to an overdue hiker report from a close friend.
