As part of a coordinated effort to slow the spread of Covid-19, the National Park Service plans to close Padre Island National Seashore on the Texas coast for the long holiday weekend.

The decision was made in coordination with Nueces County and the cities of Corpus Christi and Port Aransas.

The park will be closed to all visitors beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Access to all park beaches and overnight beach camping will resume Tuesday morning. Malaquite Visitor Center, Malaquite Campground, and Bird Island Basin Campground will remain closed until further notice.

The health and safety of visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners at Padre Island National Seashore is the Park Service's top priority.
