Pipestone National Monument will celebrate the second annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Sunday, October 11, with an evening of lights, music, and storytelling around the Monument’s Circle Trail in Pipestone, Minnesota, between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

During the celebration the three-quarter-mile-long Circle Trail will be lit with luminaries. At select locations around the trail, visitors can listen to traditional and contemporary Native American music and stories as the park celebrates the sounds and language of Indigenous culture that has filled this country for millennia.

This will be a self-guided event – come anytime between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to enjoy the luminaries and music. Visitors are free to grab some hot cider and cocoa at the entrance of the trail to take with them as they begin their walk (while supplies last). Although luminaries will light the path, visitors are encouraged to bring a flashlight and wear layers.

The visitor center will remain closed, but portable restrooms will be available and cleaned prior to the event. Masks will be worn by staff and are encouraged for visitors, particularly in areas of the trail where social distance might be difficult to maintain.

This event is free and open to the public.
