Thanks To All Who Have Supported National Parks Traveler

Share

Thanks to all those National Parks Traveler readers and listeners who have "invested" in the Traveler during our current fund-raising campaign to enable us to keep you informed on what's going on in the National Park System and to learn more about national parks and protected areas.

No other news organization keeps such close track of news across the National Park System. Such editorial work would not be possible without your support.

We are nearing the end of the national NewsMatch campaign to raise funds for nonprofit news operations. And just this week we learned that the campaign's match to news organizations has increased to $12,500.

With your help, we can reach our year-end goal of raising $35,000 to start the new year. The funding we raise during NewsMatch will set us up for 2021, allowing us to continue filling a critical need: producing reporting that informs our readers on important issues revolving around national parks and protected areas

While the big national news organizations occasionally report on parks and protected areas, none do it on a daily basis and with such wide variety as National Parks Traveler does. Where else can you read, in one week's time, stories about wildlife in national parks, how to reserve a cabin at a national seashore, how parks are affected by the coronavirus pandemic, or lawsuits that aim to maintain the health of national park resources?

Here are just a few examples of reporting in 2020 that our donors helped fund:

We have big plans for the upcoming year, including:

  • Increased coverage of national parks and protected areas in Canada.
  • More podcasts produced from within national parks.
  • More "on the ground" reporting from the parks.
  • Webinars with newsmakers.

We'll obviously continue covering how the coronavirus pandemic is impacting the park system, watching the maintenance backlog across the parks, and reporting on proposals to reach the "30 by 30" goal in terms of protecting 30 percent of the world for nature by 2030.

But we can't do any of this without you. This is important work that no other media organization is doing on a daily basis — the kind that educates and informs you and others on national parks and protected areas.

If you can afford a donation before year's end, it would be greatly appreciated. If times are too tight, we understand that and hope things turn around soon.

May the holiday season bring us all a peaceful, relaxing, and healthy break.
