Reservations for backcountry campsites at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado are to reopen Thursday/Kurt Repanshek file

Rocky Mountain National Park's reservation system for backcountry campsites, which was overloaded by demand earlier this month, is set to reopen Thursday for dates ranging from July into October.

The system to book backcountry excursions in the Colorado park ran into technical issues that prevented travelers from securing a campsite reservation.

Park staff will "reinitiate the rollout for overnight backpacking camping requests from July through October on Thursday, March 18." They plan to send out further information and details on Thursday.
