A man's body that appears to have been in the ocean for some time was found Friday morning on a beach at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina.

Park staff said the body was found a little after 9 a.m. local time between the villages of Salvo and Avon by an area resident.

National Park Service law enforcement rangers, Dare County (North Carolina) Sherriff’s Office, Dare County Emergency Medical Services and Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department all responded to the 911 call. The remains were transferred to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office.
